Level 3 Class: Therapy Dog
Therapy Dog testing and test preparation.
We'll also work on the Advanced and Urban Canine Good Citizenship public access skills.
Dogs still needing a few skills to pass the basic CGC are welcome to attend.
This class covers:
~ Meeting and greeting people
~ Settle in new environments
~ Urban walking skills
~ Working with other dogs
~ Leave It with real food
~ Automatic doors
The difficulty of these skills will increase each week. Keeping up with homework is recommended.
While we think socialization is an important experience and skill, this is not a social play class. Dogs will learn to control themselves around other dogs and strangers while on leash.
This class focuses on teamwork, which generally means one human and one dog. The Advanced CGC and Therapy Dog tests are given at the owner / dog level. While it is beneficial to have all family members work your dog, only one person should work on CGC and Therapy Dog preparation. Therapy dogs can have multiple handlers, but each handler must certify with the dog independently. Take some time to plan your class time ahead of time.
Dogs should be up to date on vaccinations or have proof of titer tests.
Dogs should be well behaved around strange dogs and humans.
Dogs should be able to perform 7 out of 10 skills on the basic CGC test to a passing level.
4 or 6 foot leash, a thin mat or towel, pea-sized soft treats.
This class meets one hour a week for 4 weeks.
Price: $125 per dog
